Fort Lauderdale Giving Rolling Right-turn Drivers at Red Lights a Break

Fort Lauderdale has begun using its red-light cameras, but police won't be issuing "gotcha" tickets to people turning right on red.

Drivers elsewhere in the region have found themselves unwittingly receiving tickets based on the cameras by making a rolling right turn on red. Sgt. Frank Sousa, spokesman for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, said that won't be the case in the city.

Bat Houses in Poinsettia Heights

Poinsettia Heights resident Jack Hanna stands in his workshop, where he hand crafts objects from wood, including bird and bat houses. Bat houses, like bird houses, are simple wooden structures hung in trees to house bats. "If enough people did that in the neighborhood, they wouldn't have to worry about insecticides and spraying because the bats will take care of that for you," Hanna said.

FPL Tree Maintenance to Clear Powerlines

FPL will be mailing a letter informing customers that an FPL authorized line clearing contractor will be working in your neighborhood (see map) in the coming months. This notification also states that “if trees or vegetation on your property require trimming away from power lines, a contractor representative will contact you, either in person or by leaving a notice on your door, 1 to 4 days prior to work beginning”.
