SR-5/US-1 FROM SE 7TH STREET TO SE 2ND STREET TO CLOSE JULY 18—22

As part of the Henry E. Kinney Tunnel Improvements and Pedestrian Plaza project, SR-5/US-1 from SE 7th Street to SE 2nd Street will be closed around-the-clock from 7 a.m. Monday, July 18 through 11 p.m., Friday, July 22 for tunnel top construction operations. Saturday, July 23 will be used as a contingency, if needed, reopening by 5 p.m. To ensure motorist and crew safety, southbound SR-5/US-1 traffic will be detoured via SR-842/Broward Boulevard, SE 3rd Avenue, and SR-736/Davie Boulevard. Motorists traveling along northbound SR-5/US-1 traffic will be detoured via SE 7th Street, This project will rehabilitate the structural, mechanical, electrical, architectural, and safety components of the Henry E. Kinney Tunnel; mill and resurface SR-5/US-1 from Rio Vista Boulevard to south of the Tunnel; install Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) along SR-5/US-1; extend the tunnel top to accommodate a pedestrian plaza which will include new fountains, seating facilities, re-designed brick pavers, artificial turf and landscape installation, and reconstruct the intersection of Las Olas Boulevard

SR-5/US-1 AND LAS OLAS BOULEVARD TO CLOSE WEDNESDAY, JULY 20

As part of the Henry E. Kinney Tunnel Improvements and Pedestrian Plaza project, US-1 from SE 7th Street to SE 2nd Street and Las Olas Boulevard in front of the tunnel will be simultaneously closed from 2 a.m. until 11 p.m., on Wednesday, July 20 for beam placement operations closest to the existing tunnel portal; Thursday, July 21 will be used as a contingency, if needed. To ensure motorist and crew safety, northbound SR-5/US-1 traffic will be detoured via SE 7th Street, SE 3rd Avenue, and SR-842/Broward Boulevard. Motorists traveling along southbound US-1 will be detoured via SR-842/Broward Boulevard, SE 3rd Avenue, and SR-736/Davie Boulevard. Las Olas Boulevard traffic will be detoured via SE 3rd Avenue, SR-842/Broward Boulevard, and SE 8th Avenue. Signage will be in place to assist motorists. This project will rehabilitate the structural, mechanical, electrical, architectural, and safety components of the Henry E. Kinney Tunnel; mill and resurface SR-5/US-1 from Rio Vista Boulevard to south of the Tunnel; install Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) along SR-5/US-1; extend the tunnel top to accommodate a pedestrian plaza which will include new fountains, seating facilities, re-designed brick pavers, artificial turf and landscape installation, and reconstruct the intersection of Las Olas Boulevard at SE 6th Avenue.
